This itinerary, aptly named “of lakes and rivers,” offers a one-day tour that takes in Lake Ogliastro, followed by Lake Pergusa, the Nicoletti Dam, and finally the mighty Simeto River at the Ponte dei Saraceni. It’s a roughly 160 km route, which includes (optionally) stops in Aidone, Piazza Armerina, Grottacalda-Floristella, Enna, Leonforte, and Centuripe, but it will allow enthusiasts to experience the “watery” side of the District.
From Lake Ogliastro, take State Road 288 to Aidone (passing Morgantina) and continue to State Road 117 bis, which you follow north towards Enna (passing the Ronza Park and the Floristella-Grottacalda Mining Park along the way) to reach Lake Pergusa via State Road 561. From here, continuing along the State Road, you pass Enna and take State Road 121, until you reach the turnoff for Lake Nicoletti. After visiting it, return to the SS121, which leads first to Leonforte, then – passing Nissoria, Agira, Lake Pozzillo, and Regalbuto – approaches Centuripe, continuing to Carcaci and then to the Simeto River, at Ponte dei Saraceni.
